RSL in 100 Words or Less

RSL in 100 Words or Less is a new feature from the minds behind The RSL Show, Under The Crossbar and El Güero.

What did our beloved Claret and Cobalt do the evening of March, 10th?  They did what they trained for.  They did what they most wanted.  They did what they are capable of.  They “came to score” (The Aggrolites).

Finally, light at the end of the tunnel! The wait is over; the time has come for our boys to take the pitch. RSL Nation is prepared to show the World once again why we’re the best team and supporters in MLS. Time to don our scarves and jerseys, paint our tifos, and sing our anthems. RSL faithful everywhere are ready for victory, ready to watch and cheer as RSL downs the Galaxy. It’s been a long winter, but its time to show that we’re all in, that we are Salt Lake, and we’re here for RSL.

It’s still the off-season, just in case you’d forgotten. I’m sure you’ve all been poring over transfer news, wearing out PS3 controllers playing FIFA 12, or making vain attempts to fight the offseason blues. No matter your crutch, waiting on that first home match is the common ground where RSL Nation now meets. Personally, I’ve found a combination of Fox Soccer Channel, the occasional watching of Green Street Hooligans, Goal, and yes, even Bend it Like Beckham (did I really just admit to that?) to be just the ticket. Either way, the off season sucks, do what you must to endure it, just try not to embarrass yourself.

There have always been great moments in sports: moments that inspire, moments that remind us why we are so enamored by what otherwise is just a game.  Saturday night was one of those great moments. With a touch of luck and a whole lot of skill RSL shook off the dust of an adversity filled season and showed the footballing world that we are contenders, dominance is in our blood, and victory is our goal. It’s strictly business for the boys in Claret and Cobalt, time for RSL Nation to do the same. In the words of Little Jonah: “These are my boys, this is my team. I love Real Salt Lake.”

Portland:  Land of doughnuts, great food, forgotten tree stumps, roses, microbrews, the Trail Blazers, and of course the Timbers (who happens to be our final opponent of the regular season). I find many things interesting about Portland and the respect they have shown their opponents in MLS quite refreshing, I know “Every rose has its thorn,” (Poison) but the civil fans of the Portland Timbers shine bright.

This being said, I know Portland is out of the MLS playoffs but I do hope they give RSL a test (that we will pass) at least for their fans.

I can’t sleep.  It’s not from the incessant tweets on my cell or my alpaca snoring .  The calls are from the Rocky Mountain Cup (RMC). RMC, “That’s because you drive me,” (Acid House Kings).  RSL Nation, the Rapids don’t deserve the Cup.  Remember the disrespect Mastroeni showed the fans in 2006 at Rice Eccles?  On that same night, how our brother in arms, Dave Checketts confronted the perp?  How MLS didn’t fine or suspend Mastroeni?  For these reasons and more the RMC wants to be and should be with the true “Kings of the Rocky Mountains.”

Today, it’s MLS in 100 Words or Less.  Why are they alienating fans faster than you can say, “Anbesol.”  It’s a bad swing and, according to the majority of fans, an even greater miss.   Did the USSF make them do it?  This attempted brainwashing known as “Referee Week?”  MLS, “…you’ve got it all wrong… Cornered the boy kicked out at the world, The world kicked back a lot f@#$!% harder” (The Libertines).  Now, we await the kick.

Kyle Beckerman deserved the punishment.  Did he act violently and inappropriately?  Did he commit the infraction? Beckerman “fought the law, And the law won” (The Crickets).   Instead of complaining about it, RSL Nation, why don’t we man up and take our medicine?  If a family member of yours committed a crime, would you feel they deserved to be punished?  During the good and the bad we need to support the fans, the players, the coaches, each other.  We are here to help them as they are here to help us.  We are the Nation of RSL.

@alpacafarmerSLC

Being part of Real Nation we (the team and the fans) have our ups and downs.   As a fan, I do not want to be known as fair weather nor do I want others to be fair weather fans.  The supporters, players, managers, employees, etc. are in a marriage.  Not to each other but to the idea of RSL.   We have the idea but now we need to push forward.  Each individual has to forget about the past and work on the future of the club, each of us.  “United we stand, divided we fall, Gotta gotta go" (Agnostic Front).

@alpacafarmerSLC

We’ve been seeing something growing before our eyes, something coming to fruition organically.  It isn’t being forced by MLS via geography, for the league to line its pockets, or so that supporters will award a trophy after the season series.  It’s a rivalry; enmity between the beloved RSL Nation and the evil  LA Galaxy empire.  With a 7-6-6 record this rivalry has been growing since the MLS Cup Final of 2009 and continues to grow.  RSL Nation, “Put 'em up against a wall and shoot 'em,
Short and tall, watch 'em fall, Come on boys take 'em all” (Cock Sparrer).
