What did our beloved Claret and Cobalt do the evening of March, 10th? They did what they trained for. They did what they most wanted. They did what they are capable of. They “came to score” (The Aggrolites).
—El Güero,
It appears that today, a Wednesday, is a slow news day. And more than just a slow news day, it's a horrendously slow news day. That, my friends, is too bad, because if anyone could use a little news to boost our midweek, it's RSL fans.
You know, after a loss, everything seems to slow down. I don't like it much. Exiting the dirt lot next to the Riot took longer than usual, passing over that little bridge (I'm always a bit scared by that thing!) took nigh on 17 hours (or, you know, something like that) and the mood was palpable. If a little Vince Guaraldi was playing — preferably "Christmas Time Is Here," which you might know from Peanuts (or Arrested Development, which would be a fine place to go with that), it would be entirely too fitting.
At any rate, the only real news we've got is about injuries, so let's take a stroll over to the MLS injury report, updated Tuesdays and Fridays, and let's see what we've got there. Click, click.
Wait, really?
We have one player listed as a definite out: Cody Arnoux. Bless his soul, he just can't seem to stay fit. It doesn't seem to be a recurrence of the same problem (but if it is, I apologize for my incorrect non-medical evaluation) but could very well have resulted from some sort of imbalance in his body (not one of those strange non-scientific ones, but the sort of 'I run slightly differently now' or, you know, something like that). At any rate, we already knew about this injury, so it's no surprise, but I felt a word or two was necessary. Rest up, lad.
The other player on our injury list is Will Johnson, who is listed as "probable." Probable! We've really recovered from our "injury crisis" (which I maintain was never a crisis) and we've hit a point where only one starter is even listed. It won't stay like this forever, as we've not heavily invested in bionic body parts (Dave Checketts, get out your pocketbook! We need money!) that would prevent injuries from even having a chance of occurring.
Indeed, even Nat Borchers is off the list, and the only question now is match fitness. Jason, for his part, indicates that he could start against Portland on Saturday.
Kreis: "Nat's looking stronger and stronger and will hopefully be available this weekend. Will's maybe a week behind where Nat is." #rsl

Kreis: "We'll pay particular attention to how (Will Johnson) recovers over the next few days and think about the weekend." #rsl

Speaking of Jason Kreis, he did have some other interesting things to say, including:
Right, that's about all for today. We're at the apex of the week's painfulness, so it's all downhill from here, right?
