RSL set to keep RMC; Beckerman, respect, and the USMNT

·

The day’s approaching when we’ll play our final home game of the season and we can start looking back at our regular season, shaking our heads, and moving on. First, though, we’ve got an all-important match in Colorado to contend with.

I confess, I haven’t always been a huge fan of the way the rivalry came to fruition. It seemed forced, contrived, unnecessary — inorganic, at the very least. I still don’t find these “Cups” particularly appealing, as it’s not really a trophy — just two clubs facing off during the regular season.

At any rate, it’s tough to not get caught up in the rivalry, and I’m quite looking forward to watching our boys in Claret and Cobalt smash the Rapids. I do wish I could be there to see it, but I have full confidence in the RSL Nation making the beautiful drive: They, I’m sure, will help push the team on — and we should see them on ESPN2 making some Royal Noise.

That said, we’ve held the Rocky Mountain Cup since 2007 and — may I go out on a limb here — we’re not going to give it up now. A draw will see us win it, but it’s important that we go out and get a win, especially with Dallas on our tail for third place. After all, the difference between third and fourth could well be the CONCACAF Champions’ League, and it would be a shame if we weren’t back in it. Can we cope with it? Well, I should hope so. We’ve done it before, we can do it again.

Here’s the question of the day, and I’d love for you to voice your opinion with a comment.

Why does Kyle Beckerman get only a small amount of respect from fans of the U.S. Men’s National Team for his play in internationals?

I’ll write more about this soon, but I’d like to hear what you have to say. Some early selected responses from Twitter:

@randalserr: I don't think it is flashy enough. Perhaps they misunderstand his role.

@ryonchase: I think people don't appreciate his tactical role for the USMNT. They want someone flashy. KB is a tactician and his position for the USMNT necessitates that. People aren't used to seeing a defensive mid position like that.

@FrayedSoul: they're just jealous of his bitchen dreads. Haters be hatin. :p

@machineryinside: I think its because he plays simple, and because of that he goes unnoticed a lot. Unnoticed = Unneeded

@jenp1014: The USMNT coach likes him. That's all that matters. He has his starting role over Bradley.

So let’s hear it! What do you think?
