First things first, I’d like to thank Cameron for his contribution yesterday about the traveling supporters. It really was great to see strong traveling supporters (who don’t happen to be from the Pacific Northwest), hear them, and have them giving their all for the side.
Moving on, it’ll be a bit of a short one today, so perhaps I’ll again do it in a notes sort of form, as there will be some disconnected thoughts put out:
- We simply must win our final game of the season. It’s at home, it’s against a struggling side (though we’re struggling ourselves), and it could well be the difference between qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions League and simply going another season in two real competitions (the Open Cup and the league, of course.) I don't think you need me to tell you that it's an absolutely imperative task.
- That said, that we have to depend on two other teams to ensure we get into the CCL is a bit ridiculous. I do wish we'd wrapped this up a lot sooner — a spectacular fall from grace, eh?
- If we do happen to win (and we better!) we could be denying little ol’ Portland a chance at the playoffs. They’ve got two matches left, we’ve got the one, and we’ll probably be a bit more rested as a result.
- Yordany Alvarez is still adjusting to the way we play the game. In a typical 4-4-2, he’d probably be reasonably effective, as he wouldn’t have to act as an anchor man on a regular basis. We’ll see how he’s adjusted on Saturday, but I’d imagine he’ll do alright in the circumstances.
- We’ve got to get back to playing our game if we want to have any post-season success. This means we have to hold on to the ball when we have it: We can’t be lumping balls forward to Saborio, bypassing our strong midfield: It simply doesn’t work, and it leads to disrupted, ineffectual performances.
I’ll be recapping the regular season here shortly, but we’ve got one more match to go — and then the post-season to conquer. It’s time to wrap this thing up with a trophy.
Come on you Claret and Cobalt!
