Injuries hit RSL squad; Grabavoy out for 4-6 weeks

·

After seeing several players make fitness bids and start their returns to the squad, Jason Kreis will be discouraged at a series of injuries at Real Salt Lake, including one to near-guaranteed starter Ned Grabavoy.

Midfielder Ned Grabavoy, who has earned an ensured start in the last two months for his effective — if not breathtaking — performances in the Claret and Cobalt, sustained a groin strain during Saturday’s match against Columbus Crew. On video series RSL Insider, Jason Kreis revealed that Grabavoy is expected to be out for one month to six weeks.

Joining Grabavoy in the physio room will be oft-injured Paulo Jr., who, during his first full training session in months on Sunday, apparently tweaked his hamstring. Paulo Jr. joins Nelson Gonzalez, who suffered a broken foot during a recent training session. Alongside the trio is second-choice goalkeeper Kyle Reynish, who suffered a concussion during a training session.

Javier Morales remains out and looks to for several months yet, though his progress has been encouraging to the backroom staff.

Also out: Jamison Olave, who pulled up during the MLS All-Stars match last week. Olave is expected to return in about two weeks.
