Right, well, there’s no avoiding it now. We’ve got that away match at Houston coming up in just hours, and if there was ever a time when a win would do us a spot of good, it’s now. Our form leaves something to be desired, certainly, but the situation’s not exactly dire.
No news out of the camp yet, but we could be boosted by the return of one Jamison Olave, who’s been slotting reasonably into the season trend of injury-hittedness. He’d certainly replace our third-choice centerback in Chris Schuler, who I’d say has performed quite well given the circumstances, particularly after a rather miserable match or two.
The midfield is still a bit of a mystery, but I would add that Arturo Alvarez may get a start in his hometown. I mean, he understands the heat, after all, right? (On that note, I hope I don’t hear that given as an excuse like it is when we visit Dallas in the summer. We get it.) Is Collen Warner in our out of favor, I wonder? His performances in the #10 spot were unconvincing at best, but I think he may yet have a role to play in the squad.
Let us also consider the state of our squad as it relates to injuries: While we seem to be injury stricken at current — and don’t get me wrong, we are — it’s not worse than we’ve seen this season. It does all compound a bit with the suspension for yellow card accumulation by Will Johnson, and that did come at a bad time, but the extra rest will help him maintain fitness in our run up.
Right, a few notes:
- It’s apparently been 307 minutes since we scored a goal on the road, our fifth-longest streak of the sort. Let’s make it no more than, say, 320, okay?
- Kyle Beckerman is four assists off the top of the assists table and has tapped into a lode of form. If it continues, expect him to be around the top of the assists table at the end of the season.
- Speaking of Kyle Beckerman, you really must hear this interview with PitchPass. It’s a great one.
Finally, the prediction. You may notice it varies a bit from yesterday’s post. It had to happen, didn’t it?
Rimando
Beltran - Borchers - Schuler - Wagner
Beckerman - Alvarez - Williams - Gil
Saborio - Espindola
As for the bench, something like: Reynish, Agorsor, Arnoux, McKenzie, Olave, Paulo Jr., Warner.
A short one today, but it’s not too long until the match. Let’s hope for three points from our boys in Claret and Cobalt today.
Up the RSL!
