So, only days after I’ve written about how nearly any player on this squad could make the starting XI or the bench for any other side in the league, the MLS site has come out with their midseason XI. While I’m well aware that our side has not been the inventive, effective side it can be for most of the season, we’ve had some standout players, and our defensive setup has been as solid as any in the league.
Why, then, are no RSL players in the list? It’s hard to say definitively, but this club is not entirely well-regarded — sure, tactically, we’re recognized, and people sometimes speak about us with the utmost respect, but it’s far too often that we’re overlooked in the league, particularly when you’re discussing our individual standouts. So perhaps a mid-season review of my own is on the cards. I’ll worry about that after our match against Vancouver, though — and perhaps the second half of our season can be a bit more positive.
We’ve had an absolutely shambolic season, and that’s been stressful — to say the least. But as much as it’s been littered with lows, the highs have been there as well, and we’ve looked tactically sound on most occasions, even when we’re not firing on all cylinders. So this mid-season review won’t be an entirely depressing read.
Let’s keep something in mind for the rest of the season: Even with our slightly regrettable record, we still hold the key to the league, and if we win the games we have in hand, we can even hit the top. So the doomsayers can be negative all they like — but we’re still incredibly close to the top. If we can hit the meteoric highs we did early season, the Supporter’s Shield is ours.
A match preview early tomorrow once some team news comes in, and the match is at 2 p.m. — don’t be late!
Come on you Claret and Cobalt!
