Gloom and doom permeate RSL camp during midweek void

·

Once you get used to midweek matches, getting off them can be a bit harsh. In an attempt to fill that void, I’ve turned to internationals, the CONCACAF Champions League, things like that... it’s not so bad once you get used to it, even if the buzz isn’t quite the same.

At any rate, I’m trying to keep my focus on Real Salt Lake, but aside from the Blake Wagner signing, it’s all a bit wait-and-see right now. There’s a bit of gloom and doom coming from the RSL camp, which is discouraging, but it’s not without cause. The latest is a piece about our road woes, and it caught my eye a bit. I know our road performances have not been of the requisite caliber, but I know they can get better, and I’m fully confident that they will.

We’ve experienced problems throughout the whole team, but I don’t doubt that the boys are taking responsibility for our performances. If they’re not, we have a bigger problem — one that can’t be solved by a swift kick in the rear, either.

So what’s to be done? At this exact moment, nothing aside from the waiting game and the proper training. Houston has played once already this week — a 1-1 draw with New England — and we’ve had to time to stew over it and sit on our games in hand. (Seriously, who plans the fixture calendar?)

Right, a few notes, then I'm off.

  • Judging by Garth Lagerwey's interview on ESPN700, it sounds like Blake Wagner could be seeing his first start for the club on Saturday. It does sound like Wagner will be a long-term project, but the goal is clearly to have him ready to play as soon as then. Given the injury to Chris Wingert, it'll be nice to have a genuine left-footed leftback in the side.
  • The El Clasico was, again, ugly. La Liga is certainly not impressing me much, and these histrionics — from both Real Madrid and Barcelona, mind — really sour the whole affair and the whole blasted league. And racist chants from the Barcelona fans really don't turn me on to their fanbase. I was never going to support them anyway, but some things help seal it.

So, a short one today, I suppose. there’s not much to be done other than wait. We’re ready to step down from the edge, now it’s simply time to do it.

Up the RSL!
