Power Rankings Overview: San Jose finally take over RSL's top spot

·

Editor's Note: Kreg Asay is back again with his power rankings overview. As the season draws to a close, San Jose has finally overtaken our top spot in average rankings across the season, while we slowly (slowly!) moved back up in the standings after our 1-0 win on the weekend. Would a win today help us move forward in the standings? Certainly so, but there's little chance that we'll get that top spot back. Still, stranger things have happened.

There was one position changes on the table, San Jose took over the first position for the first time this week.

Both Toronto and Portland moved the least at -.01 point.  For the 6th week in a row Colorado moved the most at -.22 points.  There is one tie in the rankings, both Montreal and Chivas at 14.51 points.  The smallest gap in the season average is .09 separating SJ / RSL, and NE / Chivas.  The widest gulf once again lies between LA and Colorado at 2.68 (up from 2.31 last week), the gap between K.C. and Seattle is also shrinking slowly at 1.94 points (down from 1.98); four other gaps of over 1 point also exist.

Firsts and Lasts:
*RSL has held the top spot on the season table for a total of 21 weeks (1 tied with SKC).  SKC held #1 for 3 weeks (1 tied with RSL), and SJ for 1 week.
*Toronto has been in 19th place for 17 weeks, with Montreal at 7 weeks.

Trends to watch:
The gap between Seattle and NY remains at .18 points.  Both teams are doing well, so any poor performance will likely cause a position change.  The two will likely battle for 4th place for the rest of the season.

Columbus is now only .21 points behind Colorado.  They should exchange positions next week.

Montreal and Chivas are now tied for 15th.  The Impact will take over sole possession next week, and may even jump to 14th if they rank higher than the Revolution on the weekly chart.
