There's nothing like a long lunch on a Friday to watch our boys in Claret and Cobalt prepare for the coming day's match. If you've not been out and are able to, I'd highly recommend it. On another note, the reserves match against Colorado is scheduled for Sunday at America's First Field. I hope I see plenty of you out there!
So, without much further ado (there's always further ado with me, though. I do hope you're used to it by now.), here are some scatterbrained Friday afternoon notes from training.
Sebastian Velasquez looked good and, if I'm to guess, is going to be starting tomorrow. He was scrimmaging with others who I'd expect to start — which I'll touch on more tomorrow — but he looked his usual self. That's encouraging.
Chris Estridge is still on trial and still looks good. All indications are that the front office is very interested in signing the lad, and he seems to want to stay — at least according to his Twitter (@Chris_Estridge) — so I see no reason why he won't. Except, of course, that signing him would mean we have five full backs. That's quite a few! I don't know if he can be adapted to the midfield, serving a secondary purpose, but I hope we get him and we don't sacrifice anybody. Heh.
Jason Kreis and Andy Williams had a nice moment when they faced off during a scrimmage. Both of them were training with the team as we're a bit short-handed in the midfield (injuries, sigh) and it was nice seeing them battling for the ball. I can only imagine that it's huge for us to have a staff that can play and keep up.
Everyone looked focused, aware and ready to play — even those who likely won't be playing. While resting players seemed a concern earlier in the week, I don't think we'll be resting anybody tomorrow. It is one of the marquee matches of our season, and as it's at home and against our cross-mountain rivals, it's one we really should be doing everything we can to win.
If you've not made it out to a training and can, I'd highly recommend you do. The extra dimension it adds to play is fascinating.
'Til tomorrow, then! We'll have a match preview and one of those debates (the topic should be interesting!) in the morning, and then it's off to the races!
