Friday Quick Stats: Goals, Cards and Passes

Just a short one today, folks, but something nonetheless to help tide you over until a match preview tomorrow. Rather than something drawn out and pretentious (heh), I'll just go over some statistics, as I don't have terribly much time today.

Average goals

  • In matches at home, we've conceded an average of 0.6 goals/match and scored an average of 1.6 goals/match. This isn't a terrible record, I suppose, but it could certainly be better.
  • In matches away from home, we've scored an average of 1.6 goals/match and conceded the same. This is clearly problematic.
  • However problematic that might be, it's better than the league average: On average, a home team has scored 1.52 goals/match and conceded 1.04 goals/match. However, in home wins, home teams have scored an average of 2.3 goals/match and conceded 0.59 goals/match.

Seeing Yellow and Red

  • The league has currently seen 249 bookings, nine of them reds (two of those from second yellow cautions.) 172 have been for fouls, while 14 have been given for time wasting. Oh, time wasting.
  • Ten of our 17 yellows so far this campaign have come from fouls, which is slightly less than you'd expect on average. One was for a dive (which wasn't a dive), two were for argument, two were for dissent, one was for excessive celebration (Javier Morales scoring against the Galaxy, anyone?) and one was for a handball.
  • We've also had two reds, but let's not get into that.

Rocking Back and Forth

  • Which of our midfielders has been the most forward-thinking, so to speak? Which has been sitting back most?
  • Our player making the most forward-zone passes (so, in the attacking half of the pitch) is unsurprisingly Javier Morales, sitting at 72 percent. Luis Gil comes in second at 65 percent.
  • Our player making the most back-zone passes, though, is a surprise. You'd think it might be Kyle Beckerman, but no — it's Sebastian Velasquez, sitting at 58 percent. Kyle's currently at 51 percent.
  • Kyle, Ned and Will are all about 50-50 in their passing zones. This is largely a tactical consideration.
  • The midfielder with the most turnovers per tackle is Luis Gil, at 13 turnovers for 281 touches. That is a little worrying at first, but it's sometimes a trait of being a more adventurous player. For example, Javier Morales is second in turnovers at 11, but we all know the impact he has.

Right, well, that should tide you (and me) over until tomorrow. Have a wonderful day, folks!
